Swiss diplomats called the move significant as the United States planned a direct protest delivery to the Chinese consulate general in response to U S policy toward Peiping. The Chinese government is not recognized by the United States, and past dealings have been routed through Britain.
The Labor Department reports the cost of living fell two tenths of a percent in October. The consumer price index stands at 114.5, eight tenths of a percent below October 1949 peak, affecting about 1.3 million workers mainly in autos with a one cent per hour wage loss.

EWISBURG Pa. Edward INS reports William W Remington a former inmate dies after a beating in a prison yard officials said Remington had earlier been convicted of lying about passing government secrets to a former Communist courier Elizabeth Bentley and about a Young Communist League unit at Dartmouth College He served a three year term at Lewisburg Prison and was named a Communist by Miss Bentley after a second trial in 1953 he remained in custody awaiting further proceedings.
Safety Service Director Lotko announced that water and sanitation departments will relocate to a 20 by 100 foot room on Middle Ave at Hall to the Masonic. The water and sanitation offices will close Friday and Saturday with no business until Monday. A counter and new sign were added for the new quarters.
The Peiping broadcast reported that three American civilian Army employees and eleven airmen, captured during the Korea war, were sentenced to prison terms from four years to life. The Air Force denied espionage, saying the planes were not on covert missions. Wives and mothers reacted with shock and anger as some families expected early homecomings.
