Fingers Lost In Farm Accident In Elyria Area
Walter Jewett on Griggs Road west of Elyria suffered the loss of the five middle fingers of his right hand while greasing a coin picker on a farm. A rescue crew and workers from nearby farms freed the hand. he was taken to New London Hospital and then Elyria Memorial Hospital where the fingers were amputated. His sister Alma Nemeth, a nurse, reported his condition improved but he remained in pain.

Elyria Marine in Critical Condition After Miami Crash
Cpl. Gerald R. Gill, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gill of 286 Griswold Rd., is in critical condition at Jackson Hospital Miami after a Saturday midnight accident. A drunken driver struck him and a friend while walking back to their base. Gill has severe head injuries and a broken leg and has been in a coma since the crash. His parents flew to Miami and a brain surgeon is on standby for possible operation when conscious. Gill graduated from Elyria High School in 1952 and enlisted in the U S Marine Corps that September.
