Marion Gordon was found guilty on one count of theft in office at Lorain County Common Pleas Court. The former Green Acres Children’s Home director received a sentence of one to ten years, plus a $1000 fine and restitution to be set by probation. The verdict followed a three day trial that included testimony about donated items and first choice at them.
A 26 year old woman from Mentor accused Reggie Langhorne of raping her with Webster Slaughter present after a Halloween party at Sportsworld. Prosecutors say the victim no longer wishes to pursue charges and the case will not be presented to the grand jury. Langhorne has been exonerated and declined comment.
The article recounts Langhorne expressing relief that the incident is over and criticizing the Cleveland Plain Dealer for publishing names and later defending its reporting. Browns President Art Modell supports the players, saying charges were dropped and the decision speaks for itself.
Elyria police seek a Gates Avenue pair accused of stealing power by wiring orange cords from 224 Gates to 225 Gates. Paul West, 31, reportedly connected cords from his outdoor outlet across telephone wires to a neighbor's first floor window. Dana Serfozo of Ohio Edison confirmed power had been cut at 225 Gates for nonpayment and removed taped cards as evidence. See SHOCK, A-2.
Elyria police spent four hours checking Wilkes Villa woods and nearby areas for missing 31 year old Glaceria Abram who vanished Oct 25 and rumored to be shot. Detectives surveyed the South End, West 16th Street and Oberlin Road zones but found nothing.
Elyria reports a 15,000 gift from the Apple Festival Committee to the Parks and Recreation Department to install pin lighting in Ely Park trees. Apple Festival Chairman Lyle Crosby notes the setup will illuminate the festival of lights and other events, with lights adaptable for concerts and music. A mayoral spokesperson says orders will be placed promptly and installation underway.
