Thanksgiving meals for Lorain area poor documented
Six area churches and a social service agency provided Thanksgiving meals and baskets for the poor in Lorain County. More than 125 people attended meals coordinated by Lorain YWCA and North Ridgeville Community Care Committee, with about 75 baskets of turkeys distributed at First National Church in North Ridgeville. A second dinner was planned at First Lutheran Church in Lorain. Other churches holding meals include Unity Missionary Baptist, Bethel Baptist, Jones Chapel AME, and W Avenue Christian Church. The effort comes as the County Cupboard expands monthly food boxes from 300-400 to about 1,200 to meet rising demand among the unemployed and low-income residents.

Job Wanted Sign Fails To Bring Offers In Elyria
Elyria man Jim Riffle placed an I Need A Job sign in his front yard after being laid off from Flotec in April 1982. He has heard only tentative responses from three potential employers and a neighbor offering prayer, with no firm job offers yet. His wife works for the telephone company and they have avoided financial distress, though winter has forced tough choices between eating and heating.
