The newer total disc replacement inserts an artificial disc to preserve neck motion and relieve pain after other therapies fail. Dr Amiel Bethel at Baltimore Washington Medical Center performs the procedure through a small incision with limited tissue disruption.
At New Milford Hospital a hypnotherapy program conducted in the operating room assists anesthesia to reduce anxiety and post operative pain. About 250 patients have undergone hypnotherapy since 2010 led by Alexandra Chalif and Dr. Courtney Chambers and data collection on effectiveness is underway.
