Thanksgiving Song and Family Gospel Singers in Oberlin
Gertrude Kennedy 71 leads Evangelaires with daughter Genella Arnold and granddaughter Caroline West in a family trio. They rehearse weekly at the Castaneda home and perform monthly at churches and clubs, with a spring concert planned for an Oberlin College student. Kennedy, born in Camden Arkansas, overcame tuberculosis of the spine after a long illness, later retiring from Bendix-Westinghouse and returning to singing and helping others. The group blends contralto Kennedy, alto Arnold, soprano West, and Castaneda as leads with her husband on bass, creating a dynamic family harmony.
