The AP report from Toronto notes Canadians feel belittled and harmed by U S economic policy. It cites Nixon remarks, calls for a Washington office, and fear that privileged U S focus risks Canadian manufacturing and identity in a vast, sparsely populated subcontinent sharing a long border.
The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that state law favoring men over women in administering estates violates the 14th Amendment. Sally Reed, Ada County, argued she was denied appointment as administratrix while Cecil Reed shared equal claim. The decision marks a landmark extension of equal protection to gender, amid active rights amendment debates.
A special grand jury in Lima handed down 31 secret indictments after 31 days of testimony into alleged criminal activity at Lima State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. Judge John D. Harnishfeger granted a recess as indictments will be filed tonight and served tomorrow.

South Vietnamese troops with U S air power launched a fresh offensive against North Vietnamese supply lines in eastern Cambodia. Officers report air strikes killed about 40 enemy fighters near Chrum as forces advance north of Highway 7 toward rear staging areas of three divisions near Phnom Penh.
Jury selection started for the first of 25 defendants linked to Kent State University riots. Judge Edwin Jones barred interviews and pretrial statements by lawyers witnesses and jurors, extending the gag to court staff and entrants. The first defendant is Jerry Rupe held on bonds and facing multiple charges from the May 1970 events.
A young loon found on a North Ridgeville street by Bill Lewis and Chuck Elswick was turned over to Ranger Carl Crapo. Officials say the bird was wing-shot with an injured leg but can likely be nursed back to health and released. The loon sometimes lands on pavement during migration and bad weather.
