Obama pardon turkey to reside at Mount Vernon not Disneyland
The 21 week old turkey pardoned by President Obama will travel from California to Washington next week and stay at the W Hotel near the White House before being driven in a horse drawn carriage to Mount Vernon. Emily Coleman Dibella notes Mount Vernon is fitting given Washington’s 1789 Thanksgiving proclamation and the estate’s history with turkeys. The bird will not be on permanent display after holiday events end January 6 and will be cared for behind the scenes.
