Elyria ends 1980 with carryover, faces April deficit

Elyria will finish 1980 with a carryover of about 881 522 and will avoid layoffs, but a hypothetical 16 415 deficit by April looms. City officials cite revenue gaps, retroactive union raises, and pending federal revenue sharing renewal as key factors shaping the year ahead. If revenue sharing resumes, about 860 000 could come next year, potentially wiping out the deficit.

Possible positions include head of the U S Environmental Protection Agency or roles in the Department of Energy, with Rhodes noting no comment while aides call it post election chatter. Rhodes has just returned from a China trade mission and plans to meet lawmakers on Ohio's rising costs, with no lieutenant governor in place as Senate President Olver Ocasek remains a Democrat and Paul Gillmor expected to succeed once the governor leaves office.
