Soviet Leaders Push Science Drive to Lead the World
At the 19th Congress Georgi Malenkov vowed Soviet science must be first in the world. The five year plan targets more specialists, bigger research institutes, and expanded higher education with 221000 graduates in 1952 and 375000 new students. Soviet sources note 5.5 million specialists are now employed in the economy, more than before the war.
