Repay State For Old Age Pension Aid

Henry J. Berrodin said two Lorain County old age pension cases were closed with full voluntary restitution. A daughter repaid $498, the total pension issued to a foster father and his deceased wife, enabling the daughter to take over care. The administrator noted the case was unusual and reported to the department chief.

Captain McLeod to command new Ralph H Watson freighter

The Chronicle Telegram reports Capt. W. McLeod of Elyria will captain the ore freighter Ralph H Watson. The ship will be christened tomorrow at River Rouge Michigan. McLeod began as a wheelsman with the Pittsburgh fleet in 1901 and rose through the ranks.

Lorain and Elyria Highs Face Off In City Edition

The Chronicle Telegram will publish a complete account of Saturdays football game between Lorain and Elyria high schools in the City edition. Delivery to City subscribers will be delayed a few minutes after the final whistle. The score by quarters will be posted at bulletin spots, with Monday's paper carrying full accounts and editorials.

Light snow and colder tonight with Saturday generally fair and continued cold. Snow flurries in the northeast portion. Low pressure areas centered over eastern Ontario off Alabama coast and over Washington and Oregon. High extends from the Canadian prairies through the plains to Texas. Light to moderate snows in lake region Ohio Valley and Montana with rain in the gulf states and northwest. It is colder this morning over the western high with freezing temps south into northern Texas.

Victim of Hit Skip Driver Succumbs

Mike Szabo, 60, of Route 2 Ver Milon, Lorain County's 64th traffic victim, died at Amherst Hospital after a hit and run. Found unconscious along Axtel Brownhelm road near 11:30 PM Tuesday, he suffered a fractured skull and left leg. State Patrol identified only a cowled light as evidence of the striking car.

Holdup Foiled By Arrest Of Four Youths

Six Lorain police raided a beer parlor on Elysa avenue and 50th street at 6 P M yesterday foiling a planned holdup. Four youths were arrested, including Joseph Kuznier 23 and Steve Kolody 20 both of Lorain. They were linked to prior robberies and a kidnapping of a taxi driver and a couple tied up in a shack near Van Lake. The gas station holdup at Griswold road and Lake avenue is cited in connections to the suspects.

Snow Covers Third of U S Across Nation

Snow blanketed about one third of the United States with temperatures at unusually low levels for the season. Snow totals from a trace to four inches stretched from the Rocky Mountains to the Ohio Valley while Cheyenne Wyoming registered eight below zero. Sheridan Wyoming saw three inches. The widespread snow was deemed beneficial to winter wheat across the grain belt.

Elyria Chest Campaign Reaches Two Thirds Goal

Elyria’s Community Chest reports show $42,237.09 raised toward a $61,400 goal after day two, with $19,162.91 still needed.
