Dr J L Delphine 51, recently fled from undisclosed enemies, was shot dead in his automobile near Bates bridge across the river. He had moved to Steubenville from Martins Ferry about a year ago after fearing for his life and gained local medical renown.

The Roumanian queen cuts short her triumphal American tour after word of King Ferdinand's declining health. She expresses regret to the American public and returns home with duty cited. A future royal visit to Detroit and Cleveland for Prince Nicholas is planned.
Tom Grifth of Lorain suffered facial cuts and Lores Dachtler of Lodistreat was badly cut when the car Grifth drove from Lorain slid on Lake avenue street car tracks and crashed into a telephone pole. An ambulance dispatched from Lodi street duslot's office took Dachtler to Elyria Memorial hospital while Grifth received first aid at the office.
Senator Simeon Fess is to address the first Open Forum meeting of the year. The event will be held in the auditorium of the M. E. Church on Sunday November 28 at 2 30 in the afternoon. The subject is not yet announced but the committee welcomes a prominent speaker.
Mrs Peart Hall of Winckies Street suffered a broken left wrist when a car driven by Arthur Watson veered into a ditch near Prospect Street. The vehicle rolled on its side after 35 feet, with Mrs Hall in the back seat sustaining the injury. Mr. and Mrs. Watson were uninjured. An hospital attache reports Chester Jackson also sought medical care for a minor finger injury.
Peter Witt, noted City Clerk and transportation expert, urged support for a constitutional amendment to limit gas tax increases to two cents, cap license tags at one dollar, and restrict further automobile taxation. Mrs Jane Gibson the states star witness testified from a hospital bed at Somerset county courthouse identifying Mrs Frances Hall and her brothers Willie and Henry Stevens as at the scene of Rev Edward W Hall and Mrs Eleanor Mills murder on September 14 1922. Gibson described approaching the scene after following corn thieves and hearing voices near a crap apple tree. She said she saw Mrs Hall kneeling and identified Henry Stevens and Willie Stevens as present, with the courtroom packed as the testimony unfolded.
Washington nov 18 the farm bloc threatens an extra session to push the McNary Haugen bill for a government export corporation funded by an equalization fee. Senator Gooding Idaho says the bloc will reopen the offensive at congressional reassembly and vows to act by march 4 if needed.
Washington reports Prof G L Christie of Pardue and the corn borer commission urged President Coolidge to recommend a 310 million appropriation to assist eradicating the pest. The agriculture department's borer quarantine commission led the drive as Coolidge showed interest.
