Amherst to repeal free electricity and sewer rate initiatives
Amherst City Council plans to repeal ordinances that would have granted four months of free electricity and lowered sewer rates after voters approved them 2-1. Officials warn four months of free power would boost rates and a fifth month could be charged, harming departments and risking bankruptcy. Repeal decision follows closed‑door legal review and next week’s vote.
