Five Injured In Loudonville Rail Crash

Five people were seriously injured when the Pennsylvania Railroad Manhattan Limited collided with an east bound freight train one mile west of Loudonville Ohio. The crash tore up track and damaged cars and engines while passengers were evacuated to General Hospital Mansfield.

37 Soldiers Die In Crash Near Seoul

The Far East Air Forces say 37 American Army soldiers died when a C-119 Flying Boxcar crashed into Mount Yebong near Seoul Korea while returning from leave in Japan. Seven Air Force crew members survived.

Purse Snatching Reported In East Bridge Street Incident

A woman, Jayne Reed of 1230 Gulf read, said a boy knocked her down on East Bridge street undercut at 10 40 p m and grabbed her purse then fled toward town. Police searched the downtown area but could not identify the assailant. A second call at 11 40 p m said a letter from the purse was found in front of Gosnel Tabernacle.

New Amherst School Named For Superintendent Powers

Amherst marks progress as the new Powers Elementary School, to be dedicated in February, honors Superintendent Fred Powers who has led the district since 1918. Historic dormitory fires shape campus architecture

Plating Co Plant Damaged By Costly Fire

A fire at Progressive Plating Co at 125 Abbe Road gutted the cement block building and destroyed most contents. The blaze started at 11:12 am when a lacquer hose under pressure sprayed an electric motor, igniting sparks. An employee used a spray gun during the incident and records were destroyed.

South Amherst summary: John Sarvas sr aged 59 died after being struck by a car on West Main Street. Kenneth Unger 18 of Vermilion Road Henietta drove away and was later examined as police continue investigation. Sarvas born in Russia came to the U S in 1912, resident of South Amherst since 1918. Miss Cecilia Fox to Observe 92nd Birthday This Monday

Miss Cecilia Fox, born in 1860 on a farm between here and Grafton, will celebrate her 92nd birthday Monday at 1008 West avenue. Her father Michael Fox came from Ireland at age 14 and settled near Elyria, helping build Lorain County's first Catholic church in 1835. The Fox family later moved the homestead to Novak road, with Fox Acres now part of the original farm owned by heirs.
