Medina project organizer Mickey Kennedy led a $90,000 effort to build a Gold Star Families Memorial near York Township Hall in Medina County. About 200 attended the unveiling with World War II hero Hershel Williams and local officials present. A second phase aims to raise 18,000 for five more monuments representing all military branches. PAINESVILLE The Willoughby News-Herald reports Scott Wallace, historian director at American Legion Post 336, cataloged a box of Matt Steitz’s military records. Steitz served in World War II 1942 1946 and in the Korean War 1950 1952, with reserve service 1946 1950, keeping journals, orders, passes, ration cards, bonds and letters. He died in 2014. Wallace hopes the box returns to Steitz’s family.
