Gov Lausche selects John D. Pincura Jr. Lorain city solicitor to fill Lorain county common pleas court vacancy. He succeeds Judge Guy B. Findley who retired Oct 15. Pincura will serve until a 1952 election, earning 9415 annually, up from prior rates.
Elyria Board of Education debated paying thousands for plumbing and other materials held by Sam Ross & Sons and not yet delivered to the Franklin Building site. The board upheld contract terms requiring delivery before payment, deferring the bill while approving other November construction payments and a $46,000 government bond sale to meet costs.
A fire last night damaged a Philco Corporation building in Sandusky with losses estimated over 60 000 dollars. The blaze is believed to have started from natural gas buildup. Philco manager Lionel Searle said the company’s loss could exceed 50 000 dollars and the structure housed radio cabinets and assembly line parts.

Elyria board reviews enrollment projections from Supt. L N Nicholas showing a 12 classroom Garford McKinley building may need 14 rooms by 1953 54 with two extra rooms likely. Officials urge early action and bids to start before 1952 school year to secure materials for spring delivery.
The state rested its first degree murder case against 17 year old Jerry Killinger in the killing of Harold Mast 23. The defense began its bid to prove Killinger was insane the night of Oct 5 when he ambushed Mast so Max Amerman 27 could abduct Mast’s wife. Dr E H Crawfis called Killinger a psychopath while the prosecutor said Killinger has no mental illness. The defense may call Mrs Randi Mast 24 to testify again about Amerman’s role and her forced intimacy.
Canton transit workers on a AFL affiliated bus strike widen deadlock as no settlement appears imminent. City lines remain paralyzed with drivers walking the routes daily.
In Philadelphia a 150 strong picket line clashed with police for 45 minutes but Bell Telephone Co exchange workers still reported to duty. Eleven protesters were arrested for inciting to riot. In New York union leaders threaten to extend the Western Electric walkout to 51,100 workers across six southwestern states and one city in a seventh state. CWA claims unfair labor practices while denying a return to old style strikes.
About 250 employees at the Steel and Tubes Division of Republic Steel Corp will vote tomorrow on establishing a union shop at the West Fifteenth Street plant. E J Titko, Local 3224 president, says the election will be run by a National Labor Relations Board representative. Voting runs 6 30 a m to 5 30 p m in the new locker room. all maintenance, production, and non salaried clerical workers are eligible.
At 1 a m near the east county line Fred Ullrich awoke to a collapsed chimney on his house. Deputy sheriffs say truck driver M J Pierce of Akron pulled off to rest, snagging telephone and power lines that toppled the chimney and ruined the television aerial.
The 180 day strike at Oliver Corp in Cleveland ends as the company signs a one year contract with the Independent International Association of Machinists. About 1200 production employees are covered with wage increases including 10 cents for roughly 500 day workers and six cents for about 100 more, plus improved vacations and an incentive pay formula for 600 pieceworkers.
A Canadian Skymaster chartered plane plunged near Monte Bel Obiu in the Alps killing all 51 Holy Year pilgrims and seven crew. An American, Joseph Butera of Brooklyn, was among the dead as searchers found scattered wreckage and confirmed there were no survivors. Pope Pius XI prayed for the victims.
Elyria American Legion Post 12 organizes a blood typing period at Elyria Memorial Hospital. Post members report at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to determine blood types and be eligible to donate to the Lorain County Blood Bank. Frank Nemeth chairs the donor effort with Dr Bernhard Chomet directing the blood bank cooperation.
The Lorain County Health Department sponsors a regular class for expectant mothers this Thursday at 2 45 p m in the first Noor classroom of Oberlin Library. The discussion topic is Infant Feeding and all interested attendees are welcome.
The Rev Leopold L S Braun pastor of the Catholic church in Russia will address District Catholic High School tonight at 8:15 on What Explains The Apparent Strength of the USSR. The lecture is free and open to the public with bus service from the public square starting 7 p.m. and ample parking on school grounds.
A retired Venezuelan general and 20 followers were jailed over the assassination of Lt. Col. Carlos Delgado Chalbaud, head of the ruling military triumvirate. Public meetings were banned, a nationwide curfew set for 5 p.m., and the army was ordered to shoot on sight those promoting disorders. Delgado Chalbaud was killed after being seized and fatally shot. his driver was wounded.
The Elyria Board of Education approved Mrs. Paul Scheid Oberlin as elementary teacher during Miss Ima Strait fifth grade teacher’s convalescence at Gates school. Scheid will be paid monthly until Strait can resume teaching after a leg fracture from a fall. Albert W. Meanor was also hired for the new adult education class in Human Relations. Dr Guth was absent.
U S Seventh Division crossed Ungi and Yuji Ko rivers in northeast Korea driving toward the Manchurian border about 25 to 30 miles away. The attack began at 9 a m local time with U S Marines pushing toward the Chosin reservoir while a South Korean regiment moved inland from the northeast coast. Front lines report limited operation aims, despite heavy cold and maneuvering by UN and Communist forces.
Four men from Lorain County enlisted in the U S Navy and left for the Great Lakes Naval Training Station. The group includes Jerry P. Rodgers 17 of Oberlin Road Elyria Richard Arnold Porter 20 of Elyria William Hugh Mosher Jr 19 of Wellington and Charles F Wetherbee 18 of La Grange.

Tibet pleads with the United Nations to intervene against Chinese invasion. The 16 year old Dalai Lama's appeal, approved by the Kashag and Tibetan Assembly, asks the UN to intercede while Tibet lacks UN member status and thus cannot file directly with the Security Council. Chinese Nationalist delegation says it has no direct knowledge and would seek Formosa guidance if raised.
Fifth Air Force reports two B 29 bombers damaged in a five minute air fight near the Manchurian border. Soviet MiG 15 jets attacked after the Yalu bridges mission, with eight to ten enemy fighters seen in multiple passes. Both B 29s made emergency landings in Korea with wounded crew. no enemy aircraft were shot down.
The Court of Appeals considers the murder conviction of O B Jordan 25 Lorain who killed his uncle by marriage James Knight 45 at Knight home 212 14th street Lorain last April 19 after a cards dispute. Jordan was sentenced to death by electric chair October 19 and a prior execution date was set for January 5 before the appeal was filed. The appellate court heard arguments and began reviewing the case.
