Zoning Fight Sparks Ballot Battle in Village
Gorka gathered signatures to put a zoning change before voters in November but Shenigo pulled plans and officials rescinded approval. The emergency ordinance allowed a condo project, not a trucking firm, and could bar another ballot push. Officials defend fast action citing project incentives and revenue for village and school district.

Amherst district ponders pre k 3 school amid facility plan
The district formed a 40 member facilities advisory panel in February to study options under a master plan and state funding. A survey showed community support favors a pre K 3 facility, with plans to close Powers and Harris Elementary Schools and renovate Steele and Nord Middle. The high school stays grades 9 12. Annual savings of about 500000 are expected from closures while enrollment trends project 3400 students by 2022. The district notes financial stability through a 4.9 mill levy yielding about 2.5 million annually.
