Killer escapee frees hostages and vanishes
State police hunt two escaped convicts, Charles Schmid and Raymond Hudgens, after Schmid broke from Arizona State Prison and took Clover, a woman, and two boys hostage near Florence. They were later seen driving toward Tempe, with guards protecting witnesses as authorities search the desert and vineyard area. The fugitives fled in Clover’s car and walked away in Tempe, while authorities identify victims and guard others connected to the case.
