In Baghdad an estimated 400 U.N. weapons inspectors and nonessential staff evacuated the city as tensions rose over a possible U.S. strike on Iraq. A convoy of 11 buses carried over 100 inspectors from the U.N. Special Commission, followed by about 300 humanitarian staff.
Grafton officials gain political backing from three state lawmakers to end privatization of a state owned 500 bed prison under construction on State Route 83 in the village. State Rep. John Willamowski of Lama introduced the bill on November 2.
Elyria confirms reopening of the ice skating rink at North Park Sports Complex after a refrigerant piping issue. The rink will open for the season Friday with an open skate from 7 to 10 p.m., announced Lisa Bowman, recreation supervisor.
