Syrians fire on U.S. jets as fighting rages in Lebanon
Syrian gunners fired ground to air missiles at U.S. jets over central Lebanon while Syrian-backed mutineers renewed bombardment of Arafat loyalists in Tripoli. Four U.S. F-14s were reported driven off, with no hits. Arafat refused to flee, and Israeli jets joined the area as a short lived truce collapsed.
