Black River teachers approve no raise pact with raises to 1983
Black River Teachers Association and the board ratified a contract in which teachers forego 1981 and 1982 salary increases to raise starting pay to 14590 in 1983. The schedule reaches 26455 top with master's degree and 15 years. The agreement hinges on a defeated 17.31 mill levy. The package adds dental and drug benefits and changes the supplemental contract steps. A RIF plan based on seniority was adopted as staff reductions may occur to restore finances.

Amherst Considers Emergency Ambulance Plan With Hospital
Amherst may start an in city emergency ambulance service by year end. Councilman John Wogan said Amherst Hospital could buy and run the system with city underwrite of about 14 000 dollars per quarter, with potential cost cuts if nearby townships join. Mayor DePaola vetoed a 40 mill levy proposal and is exploring hospital options including Lorain Community. The plan could be in place by December 15 if approved.
