Elyria City Auditor Ted Pileski reports cautious optimism for 2011 revenue. by December he aims to present general fund and police levy projections to City Council to guide next year’s budget. Through October tax collections are roughly 3.75 percent higher than last year, with a projected 2 to 3 percent gain next year.
Avon council declared the necessity to appropriate 12 parcels totaling about 30 acres for the I 90 Nagel Road interchange to serve the Cleveland Clinic project and other development. The city has agreements with 18 owners. 12 parcels remain in talks, with possible court action if no agreement is reached. One owner, Frank Root, criticized offers as inadequate while remaining countered at 300000.
After two years of near silence the former president speaks again addressing supporters and outlining a new policy focus. The remarks signal a potential shift in political strategy and boosted attention from party allies.
Lorain based filmmaker Christine Grozik brings an independent movie to Diner 254 on Detroit Road in Sheffield. The retro eatery hosts two night shoots with local servers and actors from Kentucky and Pennsylvania, inside after 9 pm and outside tonight. The low budget drama centers on a down on his luck man who meets a hopeful waitress, with additional work planned in Elyria Lorain area.
Lorain plans the final step to meet EPA orders with a downtown retention tunnel and a 46 million project. Early in 2011 the city will accept bids as part of upgrading the sewer system, with residents likely facing higher sewer charges.
Lydia Nord of Oberlin and her roommate Clifton Robinson, both charged in the October Flats district death of Kevin Ghee, a 25 year old Warrensville Heights man. Nord paid a 500000 cash bond after arraignment in Cleveland, pleaded not guilty, and is under travel and contact restrictions. Robinson faces one count of aggravated murder as authorities describe an argument at Earth Nightclub on Old River Road.
