Oberlin woman chosen for international model convention
Nichole Dongarra of Oberlin is among 49 of 600 auditionees selected to represent Pro-Model Management at the IMTA Convention in Los Angeles. A 1996 Maple Grove graduate, she seeks sponsors for her trip and may gain cash prizes scholarships and contracts in modeling acting singing and dancing.

Banana workers press Chiquita to boost pay and rights
Central American banana workers urged Chiquita Brands International to allow unionizing and collective bargaining. Doris Calvo Monge and Marcelino de la Cruz Garcia cited pay around $6 daily for 12 to 18 hour days, poor housing, no medical care, and chemical exposure. They also want reinstatement of 500 workers fired for union activity and flooded plantation rehabs to save jobs. The leaders spoke in Cincinnati during a Midwest campus tour.
