Linda Gross Brown of Rocky River is November’s featured artist at the Avon Lake Public Library Gallery. Her show includes 25 watercolor sketches and oil still lifes. Brown holds a fine arts degree from Kent State University and is preparing her master’s thesis. She has exhibited her work widely.
The artist shows at Baycraft and the NOVA annual painting show with works displayed in Amherst Oberlin and Kent. Her pieces reside in private and corporate collections in the United States South America and Europe. Brown’s works are in a Rocky River exhibit for sale and she maintains two studios with gallery hours at the library location.
Lorain voters re-elected most Democrats in a city council sweep. Mary Jo Cook became the first woman on the council by narrowly defeating Rosemary Schuler in Ward 7, while incumbents Chevalier and Hritsko won at large. Other races produced wins for Skimin, Ross, Arroyo, McDonald, Shawver, Metelsky Jr., and Ritenauer with Olejko clinching the presidency.
Avon Lake council plans a second reading of the police negotiations contract at the November 14 meeting. The first reading occurred at a three minute special meeting after an executive session. The salary portion is settled with a 4 percent raise in 1983 and 7 percent in January 1984 until December 1984.
