Elyria voters reject school levy despite tight margin

Elyria voters again defeated a 4.8 mill operating levy by 8 478 to 7 149, threatening November or December 1978 school closings for lack of funds. If approved next year the levy would have raised 1 7 million dollars. officials warn continued deficits and possible district shutdowns unless a levy passes. showalter noted board changes and possible next steps, while some officials fear voters will require actual school closures before renewed levy efforts.

Ohio voters repeal instant registration and repeal traps

Ohio turnout set a record as residents repealed an instant voter registration law and rejected a ban on leghold animal traps in an off year election. With 98 percent of votes counted, four constitutional amendments were decisively addressed by about 31 million Ohioans. The high turnout also affected housing and financing measures, while demonstrating strong opposition to the recent registration law.
