Progress Toward Farm Adjustment
Adjustment payments under the wheat plan will total 100,000,000 dollars. If all applicants sign contracts, 570,263 farmers will receive checks. Ohioans will get 1,607,000 dollars. Speed Up Loans: In the first 20 days of October, the Federal Land Bank of Louisville approved 8,032 loans totaling 19,357,000 dollars, more than a million per working day. Ohio received 5,577,800 dollars. This exceeds nine months of 1933 approvals. Rate averaged one loan every 3.6 minutes. Farm backlogs are to be appraised by December 1. Corn loans: CCC will provide warehouse-backed loans for No. 2 December corn at 50 cents a bushel with 4 percent interest. States eligible include Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Colorado, Mississippi, Montana, and Oregon.

Ohio State University extension dairying expert Ivan McKellip says high feed costs relative to milk price will drive dairymen to cull poor producers, old cows, and cows with udder trouble or fertility issues before winter. September milk to feed ratio fell to 119 from 122 a year earlier, with two years prior at 167 feed per 190 milk and 132 per 100 milk in 1926–1930.
