Local man killed by auto in Amherst area crash
Alfred Roberts, 75, janitor at Lake Avenue School, was fatally struck Sunday noon when a car driven by William W. Harris skidded on a slippery road. Roberts died at Elyria Memorial Hospital at four p.m. Coroner Myles Perry ruled the death accidental and investigated a second car that passed Harris. Roberts was taken to an Amherst funeral home.

Demand Probe Of Fed Estate Tax Lobby
Washington November 7 Rep Rainey Democrat Illinois announced at the House Ways and Means tax hearing he will demand an investigation into who funds the so called Federal estate tax lobby in Washington. He pressed Governor Fred W Green of Michigan on who paid his expenses to oppose the estate tax levy and said many witnesses will not cover their costs. Green said he paid his own expenses. Governor and other state officials opposed to killing the estate tax gathered in Washington for the hearing.

Pomona Grange Meets At Amherst in Lorain County
Lorain County Pomona Grange No 79 met in the F O E hall Amherst on November 5 for an all day session. Reports came from 13 subordinate Granges with 139 total members on the regular roll call. Carlisle Grange won the banner for the largest visiting delegation. Hickory Tree Grange conferred the sixth degree on a large class. Two resolutions were adopted to be sent to State Grange. County entertainment plans for the State Grange reception were laid by a committee including Greta Walker Frank Mason Merle Penfound Charles Gott Newton Hoskins and Ruby Cotton. The reception will be at Hotel Winton Cleveland on November 15 with Ohio counties aiding delegates and visitors. Lorain County Day will be observed during the National convention. Dinner was served at noon by Hickory Tree Grange. About 176 members attended the afternoon session. An invitation was extended by Mr and Mrs Gott to members at No 4 Gott.

Three Injured In Lakewood Accident
Three people were injured Saturday night when a machine driven by Donald Breuning of Elyria Y M C A struck a machine driven by Mrs M B Dietrich of North Ridgeville on Sloane avenue in Lakewood. Dietrich Gertrude Adams of Elyria and Dorothy O Connors of Grafton were taken to a Lakewood hospital for cuts and bruises. Both machines were damaged. Breuning was accompanied by Clarence Schroeder of Elyria and Raymond Finney of Elyria.
