Civil War veterans honored in nine Portsmouth area cemeteries
Judy Ross leads a campaign to place 27 granite headstones for Civil War soldiers buried in Greenlawn and other local cemeteries. The memorial service is scheduled 1:30 p.m. November 9 at Greenlawn and 2 p.m. at the remaining eight sites with 21 gun salutes and a possible flyover.

Court rules motorist search in marijuana case invalid
The 6th Ohio District Court of Appeals ruled troopers had no right to stop and search a van transporting marijuana on the Ohio Turnpike. Todd McCormick and Natalie Byrd were en route to Providence to start a Compassion Club to aid AIDS, glaucoma and cancer patients. The court found the stop violated McCormick’s rights. curtains blocking the driver’s view were not a traffic violation.

North Ridgeville charter vote targets safety director choice
