Seven Escapees Back in Lorain County Jail

Seven prisoners who escaped from a Lorain jail last Tuesday are recaptured. The final two were nabbed in Eaton Township at 6 30 p.m. after a day and a half on the run. They are in Elyria Municipal Court tomorrow facing escape charges. The escape involved a slate desk top pried from a cell, a 12 foot chain link fence, and pursuit across fields and woods.

Leaf collection delays hit Elyria as leaves fall fast

Casey Turton reports Elyria street crews struggle to keep up with a heavy leaf fall. Safety Service Director Bergman had announced weekly pickups the day after rubbish collection, but officials say crews may only complete two passes before snow. The street department operates seven vacuum machines, usually six in use, with one spare and occasional repairs.

Wholesale prices jump in October as farm costs rise

Wholesale prices rose eight tenths of a percent in October the biggest gain since April with farm prices up 2.4 percent signaling higher supermarket costs ahead. Food, grains, fruits and vegetables and motor vehicles drove the surge while Labor data showed real pay gains eroded by inflation.

Water accord reached for Elyria food plant plan

Elyria and North Ridgeville officials reached an agreement to make Elyria water available for a proposed 50 million dollar food processing plant on Taylor Street after a two hour session. Officials will review water pressure, rates, and minimum usage, with future talks about a potential 2 million holding tank.
