Thousands Flee Brush Fires as California Wildfires Grow
In Southern California, an army of firefighters battled five weekend blazes that scorched nearly 20 000 acres. At least a dozen homes were incinerated and thousands fled, with one million dollar Bell Canyon estates briefly threatened. No deaths, two firefighters hospitalized. The largest fire, 17 500 acres near Los Angeles foothills, was contained at dusk. Fire perimeter with 1 000 firefighters expected to achieve full control today.
