Earl Merrifield of Center Ridge road in Westlake preserves a copy of Abilene High School’s 1911 yearbook The Hellanthus and recalls Dwight D Eisenhower as a football teammate and classmate. He recalls Ike's rise from Abilene to West Point and notes Mrs Eisenhower’s cookie baking. Merrifield attended an Aviation club dinner in 1946 where Eisenhower warned against disarming too soon and warned about Russia.
