Oberlin based Gilford Instrument Co and Corning Glass Works of Corning NY announce a $40 million merger plan with a tax free stock exchange. Gilford stockholders may receive up to 48 percent cash and 52 percent in Corning stock. Company employs 900 at Oberlin Cleveland and Waltham facilities and has about 1,500 shareholders.
After 14 hours of bargaining city council and police negotiators reached a tentative contract ending an eight day blue flu. FOP President James McBennett said the membership meets at 10 am to vote with potential return to work for afternoon shift if approved. The proposal includes 4 percent wage increases for both years and new fringe benefits such as an officer bill of rights and call-out time.
A two car collision on Hilliard Road in front of Westlake High School killed Robert W Olson, 54, and injured his wife Verna, 32, along with Dale Partlow, 25, a Michigan resident. Partlow's car crossed left of center triggering the head on crash. cause is under investigation.
