Enrollments in Four-H Clubs Reach 700 in Tin Valley

Enrollment in Tibialn County four-H clubs passes the 700 mark with 330 boys and 342 girls reported so far. The largest club is Columbia Sons of the Soil with 15 members, Wellington leads in total members across five clubs, and dairy and vegetable projects are popular among boys while sewing and home crafts lead for girls. Final totals expect to at least equal last year’s figures once all reports are in.

Tragic drowning of Eugene Mer near river dam

Eugene Mer, 2nd grade student at St. Mary's church, drowned after falling into the river while others threw bottles. Fireman Harold Weiland and Park Superintendent John Machack recovered the body near the dam at the old power plant. He is survived by his mother, stepfather, brothers Joseph and John, and grandfather Louis Talameo of Farrell, Pa. Funeral services planned at the family residence and St. Mary's church, with burial in St. Mary's cemetery.

Ohio AMVETS Hold First Convention in Columbus

Ohio AMVETS opened its three day first annual convention in Columbus with plans to adopt a state constitution and program. Gov. Frank Lausche Sen. James Huffman former Gov. Bricker and Maj Gen Beightler were slated to speak alongside Legion and Disabled American Veterans leaders.

Multiple vehicle incidents detailed: Mack Looper Jr. damaged a fence and left highway near Kalbe road after losing control at 3 55 am. Edward Kovlak reported damage to left rear fender and wheel from a sideswipe on Oberlin road near city limits. Deaths of Leroy Stevens and Clifford D Thorn in Elyria region

Obituaries report Leroy Stevens two and a half year old son of Mr and Mrs Albert Stevens of 319 North Street died at Elyria Memorial Hospital after five days with pneumonia. He was born February 20 1944 in Elyria. Survived by parents three brothers and a sister John Albert Earl Marjorie all at home. Funeral arrangements through Sudro Curtis Funeral Home with burial at Brookdale Cemetery. Also Clifford D Thorn of 219 Oberlin Road died at Cleveland Clinic Hospital after brief illness. Born August 17 1903 in Haviland, Ohio, he had lived in Elyria 11 years and worked as a shutter at American Radiator and Standsite Sanitary Corp and was married to Delphinia Warren. Survived by wife, two daughters Sherrill Kay and Gayle Marie, mother Anna Thomas of Toledo, burial at Brookdale Cemetery with services at Jones chapel. Also Ella Johnson of R D No 2 Grafton Road died at Allen Hospital. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, she moved to the area 20 years ago and was active in several organizations. Surviving husband Frank, son Lawrence, daughter Elizabeth Hachette, services Saturday at Rust Methodist Church, burial at Westwood.

Seniors Dominant in High School Football Victory

The senior team built an early lead with multiple sacks across the goal line and extended it at halftime. In the second half the seniors maintained pressure, scoring 54 points to the juniors 5, finishing 117 to 30. Arthur Farmer led the seniors and Sherwood Byam captained the juniors.
