Elyria WWII Vet Relives Normandy Front Through Faithful Life

Ray Pycraft, 91, a World War II veteran from Elyria, recalls storming Normandy, combat in France and Germany, and earning two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He returned home after 1945 with medals stored away, later honored by First Baptist Church along with other veterans.

Keystone Dominates Maumee Heads To State

The Wildcats won their Division II regional final 11-0 in five innings and will make their 15th trip to the state tournament. They open at 10 a.m. Friday at Akron Firestone Stadium against Hamilton Ross. The day also saw a rookie win the Indy 500, the Tribe fall to Baltimore 6 4, and Martin Truex Jr. win the Coca Cola 600.

Lorain Honors Fallen in Memorial Service at Palace Theater

Lorain marked its veterans with floral baskets and a memorial at the Palace Theater. Emcee Steve Bansek praised long running observances since 1931 and honored those who passed in the last year. Pearl Harbor was remembered as a day of infamy.

Taylor Street and Warren Avenue traffic closures planned

Taylor Street will be open to local traffic from Olive to South Logan Tuesday through Friday. Warren Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Clark to Taylor from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday while Fabrizi Trucking installs new water mains.
