Ohio high court rules temporary tags need not be shown
The Ohio Supreme Court ruled that temporary tags on vehicles need not be visible and an officer may not detain a driver for other reasons after showing them. The decision stems from the 1981 arrest of Harry L. Chatton when a Maple Heights officer missed the tag. The court found no state law requiring visible tags and that once the tag was seen, there were no further facts justifying arrest.
