In a grim siege of a steel strike, Republic Steel used airplanes to drop food to workers at the Niles plant isolated by pickets. Trucks and rail deliveries were blocked to Warren, Canton, Youngstown, and Niles, with authorities unable to protect normal food handling. In Chicago, police and strikers clashed as 200 officers halted a mass picket at the South Chicago mill, while 450 workers were kept out of a Monroe Michigan plant and earlier Beaver Falls Pennsylvania and Cumberland Maryland mills were closed. Stage Bitter Strike Fight In Chicago

Eight Injured In Two Auto Accidents
Eight persons treated at St. Joseph's Hospital Lorain three Elyrians for injuries in two motor vehicle crashes last night. Drivers named include Chrng Younglas 22 Edward Greer 19 Frank Rybarczyk 21 Donald Cherry 17 near Reid avenue and 20th street Lorain. The more serious collision occurred on Lake road near Elberta Beach at 1 a.m. involving Huron residents and a vehicle carrying Paul Risko 19 Sheffield Lake and two friends to Crystal Beach. Risko rode in a car owned by Samuel Harris 21 Stop 79 Lake road driven by Joseph Radebaugh 31 Ashland and all three were held for observation with multiple lacerations and bruises. A separate crash on Route 7 two miles south of Elyria at 4 a.m. damaged two cars driven by James Dunlap 60 Oxford Elyria and Joseph Durfee 33 Steubenville. Deputy sheriffs reported.

County Commissioner Oscar G Dunn who led a one man raid on slot machines on May 13 added two more wrecked devices to his tally bringing his total to six. The latest broken dime and quarter machines were found in a ditch on West Ridge Road about a mile south of Telegraph Road. A tip from a local resident led to the discovery after children and a bakery driver had extracted coins from the units. Police officials traced the activity to the sheriff's district and the seized remains were brought to police headquarters by Dean.
