Lorain breaks ground on Hispanic Veterans Memorial at Oakwood Park

The Ohio Hispanic Veterans Memorial Committee held a ceremonial groundbreaking at Oakwood Park, aiming to create the state's first Hispanic veterans memorial by November. Lorain officials note the project fills a long wait list, joining Sacramento and Buffalo in commemorating Hispanic and Latino veterans. Memorial leaders and local figures recall late Police Chief Del Rivera’s push to expand Lorain’s memorial to include all Hispanic and Latino veterans in the state.

COVID lingers with summer wave amid apathy and fading will to act

The Washington Post reports that despite new variants and a likely uptick this summer, federal pressure to curb transmission is minimal and data are sparse. Free tests lessen, vaccines may not be free for the uninsured, and public interest wanes as masks remain uncommon and life returns to normal.
