Nimitz Carrier Plane Crash Kills 14 During Landing
An electronic warfare EA-6B aircraft crashed on the flight deck of the Nimitz nuclear carrier near Jacksonville during landing drills. 14 were killed and 43 injured. 10 aircraft were damaged or destroyed. The ship returned to Norfolk, with nuclear weapons status unreported. Affected crew evacuated to the ship and Jacksonville hospitals.
