Candy blamed as LSD allegedly affected Nebraska teen

Marilyn Cleveland, 17, Miss Teen Age Nebraska 1970, ate an innocent looking candy and later woke in a hospital with suspected LSD or hallucinogen effects. She described distorted vision and memory as friends helped her to school and doctors treated her for several days before returning home to recover.

Taft favorite son plan alarms Ohio GOP leaders

WIRE REPORTS say Senator Robert Taft Jr will announce as Ohio GOP favorite son candidate in 1972 to aid his debts and press a bid to lead the state party. Columbus leaders warn the move could split the party and challenge Agnew for the ticket, with Taft aiming to leverage Nixon in 1972.

Bomb blast kills British sergeant in Belfast frontline attack

A British sergeant died after shielding a father and two children from a suitcase bomb that damaged an army barracks in Belfast. Twenty seven others were hurt. a baby in a carriage was seriously injured when a car was sent across the street. A teen allegedly threw the device before fleeing. This marks the eighth British soldier killed in Northern Ireland, as Premier Faulkner authorized troops to shoot anyone carrying weapons or acting suspiciously.

Mass murder arrest shocks Yuba City region

Juan V. Corona, 37, a farm laborer, was arrested at his residence and charged with nine counts of homicide after the bodies of nine men were found buried near the Feather River on the James Sullivan ranch five miles north of Yuba City. Deputies recovered tools and dug-out graves as the search continued.

Suspected killer linked to Sutter County killings

Sheriff Whiteaker says a single assailant murdered middle aged farm workers over five to six weeks. Seven bodies were unearthed in a peach and prune orchard with machete or heavy knife wounds. Kenneth Whitacre 40 of Alameda and Pete Peterson 63 of Marysville were identified. Other victims aged 40 to 60s remain unnamed. Bodies buried three to five feet deep, lying on backs with arms raised.

Choir director pays $98 in parking fines battle

Elyria Grace Apostolic Church choir director William Forgues, 23, paid 50 in fines, 40 mileage, and 8 court costs after being found guilty of parking violations in West Salem. Forgues plans to appeal to Worcester Municipal Court. A second ticket remains unresolved from hours earlier.

Australian airline pays ransom over jet hoax threat

Qantas gave a 560000 ransom to a man claiming a barometric device was aboard a Boeing 707 with over 200 aboard. The plane diverted to Sydney after a six and a half hour precautionary circle. Police found a device in a locker. the caller claimed to have details on the device and demanded payment in exchange for defusal instructions. The suspect later said there was no device.
