West German Peace Pact Signed by Western Allies

The Western Big Three and West Germany sign a 400 page pact in Bonn ending occupation costs. It permits German courts for Allied troops, retains troops as defense forces, and lays out six documents including a joint tribunal and a Berlin protocol with 12 German divisions to form a European Army.

Lorain Man Dies in Crash on Pearl Road

Charles E. Gnagg for 31, of Lorain, dies at St Josephs Hospital after a single vehicle crash on Pearl road south of Lorain. His six year old daughter Maryanne injured with head and internal injuries. Gnagy worked in the National Tube Co service department. Funeral at Dovala Funeral Home, Lorain, Wednesday.

Seven Brown-Fintube Workers Quit Over Pay Delay

Seven night shift employees at Brown-Fintube left their jobs after pay checks were late due to a broken machine and un signed checks. Management says they quit. union says they were discharged and will pursue grievance as per contract. All seven belong to Amalgamated Labor Union Local 996.

Two Tankers Collide In Delaware River Crash

In a driving rainstorm off Augustine Beach near Wilmington two tankers collided and burned. The 10441-ton Michael carrying crude oil and the 240-foot A. C. Dodge with 630000 gallons of gasoline sank after explosions. Two unidentified bodies were recovered and eight men remained missing.

Driver Fails To See Curve In Avon Collision

The accident at Jaycox and Mulls road occurred early Sunday when Walter Parker and his brother in law Ellis Fryfogle failed to negotiate a sharp curve. Parker drove a 1951 Oldsmobile on the way to Avon Lake. both men were hospitalized at Bay View but released later.

Man Hurt By Motor Scooter Collision

Paul Urbansok, 51, of 135 Huror street, treated at Elyria Memorial Hospital for facial abrasions and a fractured ankle after his motor scooter skidded and fell on him on Infirmary road at 6 p m. The sheriff’s report says the crash occurred as Urbansok passed a 12 year old girl walking along the road. Clyde Bowling, 18, of South Amherst, treated for a possible fractured nose after his car tipped over on West River road north of Route 20 while trying to miss a man on a bicycle.

Bombing Reward Offered by Cleveland Detective

W. C. Connelly, whose home was bombed on May 17, offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for the attack.

Recommendation Made To NLRB In Local Case

Bernard Marcus, NLRB representative, recommended that Elyria Telephone Co objections to the October 10 1951 NLRB election be dismissed and CIO Communications Workers certified as bargaining agent for the company employees. He urged the NLRB in Washington to decide, noting possible further company appeal. The ruling also states service assistants are not supervisors and may be within the bargaining unit.

Two Die In Lake Road Crash Near Avon Lake

Price and Miss Juanita Johnson were killed when Price's 1950 Buick struck a tree on Lake road at about 4 30 a m. Johnson died at the scene and Penland was injured and taken to St Joseph's Hospital Lorain. Burmeister Funeral Home carried Price and Johnson to Cleveland. A separate report details a purse snatching on West Street as Mrs. Rose Burgett was assaulted and robbed of about seven dollars.

VFW and Auxiliary Officers Installed in Lorain County

About 150 attended the joint installation of Lorain County Council Posts and Auxiliaries VFW at Elyria Post 1079 club rooms. New council president Mrs. Berniece Snyder of Wellington and council post commander Raymond C. Neff, also of Wellington, led the ceremony.

Ridgway Outline Sparks Korea War Speculation

Gen Matthew Ridgway told the Senate Armed Services Committee he favored a military plan to end the Korean War but warned a major new offensive could cause large Allied casualties. He said bombing Manchurian bases might be needed for victory but would risk drawing the Soviet Air Force into the conflict.

Tax Delinquent Real Estate To Be Sold

County Auditor Frank Ayres announced the sale of 350 tax delinquent parcels three years or more, at 9 30 a m June 23 in Court room No 2, with about 40 parcels sold daily to the highest bidder. Parcels span Lorain Elyria Avon Lake Sheffield Lake Ridgeville Sheffield Ver Milwaukie and more, including 59 acres near Lorain and 82 acres in Sheffield Village. Owners can withdraw from sale by paying taxes before the auction.

Part Of Route 18 To Be Improved

Reconstruction of 1% miles of State Route 18 west of Wellington to eliminate dangerous curves is planned for next year as part of a $50,000,000 state highway program. The Route 18 project is estimated at $336,000 with bids to be accepted early next year.

Work Stoppage In Effect Today At Colson Corp

Production and office staff at Colson Corporation abstained from work as AFL union 19343 calls a strike over unresolved contract terms. Picket lines formed early, with no crossing by office workers and guards remaining on duty. Union leader Dale Maddock said the stoppage aims to force contract agreement focusing on wage issues.

Man Dead Two Weeks Found in East Side Home

Cleveland police awaited orders to search the East Side home of 69 year old John Vykocil after his body lay undiscovered for two weeks. A probate court warrant was to be filed against his wife Albie who reportedly resided with the deceased during that period. Police believe a large sum of money may be hidden in the residence.
