Deputies James Jenkins and Richard Dungan were injured in a fight with three Eaton Boulevard family members after responding to a traffic call. A 17-year-old youth and his 16-year-old sister were jailed for juvenile charges. the 19-year-old brother fled and was not arrested. Dungan was treated and released. Jenkins remained in fair condition with back injuries at Elyria Memorial Hospital. The incident prompted police to consult the Elyria city prosecutor prior to charging the youths.
Amtrak will staff the Elyria stop with baggage and ticket service and improved quarters after officials reversed a plan to leave it unmanned. A modular station from Cleveland will be moved here when Cleveland’s new hall is finished, with full service expected shortly after utilities are installed.
Lorain Sanford Prodoff says HUD critique of the citys block grant program should not be viewed as a severe reprimand. HUD gave conditional approval for a third year of funding and raised questions on equal opportunity citizen participation relocation acquisition financial management and contracting procedures. City officials cite complex regulations and say answers will address inadequacies and steering concerns.
