Four Die In Lorain County Weekend Traffic Toll

Lorain County suffered four roadside deaths and several serious injuries in weekend crashes. The dead include Max Passmore 21 Elyria Steve Horvath 21 Lorain Frank Adams 34 Grafton and Fred Wallace 54 Lorain. Harry Flood 20 Elyria severely injured. others sustain multiple injuries after a car hit a bridge abutment. A separate collision on Route 18 near Wellington injured Gerald Weston and involved the Dallas family. Coroner verdicts call accidents.

Storm Rips Wellington With Severe Wind and Damage

A Saturday afternoon windstorm of cyclonic intensity lashed Wellington and nearby areas, uprooting trees and tearing down poles. The village light service was restored to the business district by night, while residential areas remained out until late Sunday. Roofs and chimneys were swept away, windows shattered, and a silo blown down near L. W. McConnell's farm. No injuries reported.

Washington May 24 The Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the unemployment insurance provisions of the Social Security Act in a 5 to 4 decision. Justice Cardozo read the opinion as validating the New Deal aim of general unemployment insurance, with federal law encouraging states to enact their own programs to avoid direct federal mandates.

Priests to Be Honored at Lorain Midnight Mass

Two Lorain County priests Rev Adam Sanger of Sheffield Lake and Rev John N Rhein of Ridgeville will assist Bishop Joseph Schrembs at the midnight mass during the Eucharistic Congress in Lorain. Body Of Founder Of Great Fortune Sent North Tonight

Ormond Beach Florida May 24 The body of John Davison Rockefeller Sr who died in his 98th year after giving away large sums will be sent north tonight in a private car for burial In a castle overlooking the Hudson at Tarrytown New York the family gathers to honor their patriarch The funeral will be held Wednesday and the body will later go to Cleveland where he rose from penniless youth Rockefeller died at 405 am EST after a brief coma caused by an aging heart His death ends little of the dynasty and his son John D Rockefeller Jr retains control of both his wealth making enterprises and family philanthropy He gave away hundreds of millions to education science sanitation religion and research and built Standard Oil into a colossal enterprise. He died two years and a month before his 100th birthday. The death drew mixed reflections from leaders scientists and congregants and highlighted Rockefeller philanthropy. His will left a comparatively small estate officials say The funeral will be private with observers noting the family and church ties and the lasting impact of his foundations.
