Washington law industry swells as ex officials join private firms

A Washington trend shows ex government officials shifting to private legal work as an “industry” grows. Abe Fortas joined a private firm after leaving interior work and agreed to represent Puerto Rico in major courts, prompting questions about conflicts and propriety. The piece contrasts Fortas with earlier reformers, notes rising lobbying and legal fee costs, and cites fears of public funds covering private gains. It also mentions Judge Waldie in Lincoln and a batch of 200 local adoption-seeking children in New South Wales.
