Alberta T Turner 83 poet professor and author died after a long illness at her home Born in Pleasantville NY she lived in Oberlin Ohio since 1947 She taught creative writing and poetry at Oberlin Cleveland State University and served as founding editor of Field Magazine She earned awards including Ohio Governor's Award for the Arts Cleveland Arts Prize Ohioana Poetry Award and Chillicothe Award for Outstanding Poet She published eight poetry volumes including Learning to Count and Tomorrow is a Tight Fist She lived a life dedicated to poetry teaching and community service.
