Elyria Pioneer Marching Band hosts Appreciation Day concert
Elyria High School hosted an evening free concert on the steps of the Lorain County Courthouse to thank the city for support. Drum major Morgan Davis ended her term. Jeremiah Csizmadia assumes the role. Raffle winners from Elyria received a Chevy Cruze, $500, and $250 with proceeds benefiting the Pioneer Club and school funds.

Jury recommends death for man in three killings
In Cleveland a jury urged the death penalty for Michael Madison 38 for the killings of three women whose bodies were found in or near his East Cleveland apartment. The panel convicted him of aggravated murder and kidnapping and recommended lethal injection.

County engineer to return to jail for remaining sentence
Lorain County Engineer Ken Carney, 67, will report to Lorain County Jail this weekend to begin the 26 days left on a 30 day sentence for criminal mischief from 2014. He will be released for work release, with alcohol monitoring and nightly checks.

Avon Lake to start major upgrades at regional water plant
Avon Lake Regional Water will launch a 68 million dollar upgrade of its water and wastewater systems with 32 million for the water end and 35 million for the wastewater end. Work begins in June and will overhaul a facility built in 1960, last upgraded decades ago. The project serves 200000 people across Avon Avon Lake and Lorain County Rural Wastewater while educating students from Troy Intermediate School about water treatment.
