Elyria Licenses Building Tradesmen Planned

An ordinance to license city plumbers was deferred by Councilman Kolopos who urged familiarization with the provisions before action. The plan would set journeymen at 5 and master plumbers at 50 with an 18 renewal, plus a board exam. A hearing is scheduled for 7 30 p.m. tomorrow in the council chamber, with open participation for all building tradesmen and support from Mayor Agate.

Lorain County Approves Assistant County Agent Hire

The Lorain County Agricultural Extension Council approved hiring an assistant county agricultural extension agent if one can be found. A tentative budget for the extension program was approved to be sent to county commissioners for approval. Raymond Trinter will supervise Fourie Club work this summer before joining Henrietta School faculty in September, after which he cannot continue with extension service. Committees of pension agents will set up plans for fall and winter programs on an operative basis.

Cars Damaged In Traffic Mishaps

Albert Page and Harry Holmes were involved in a wreck at Seventh street and East avenue as Page backed from Seventh street into East Avenue striking Holmes. Elaine Holmes was treated at Memorial Hospital for minor bruises and released. Ruth Shepard sustained ear injuries.

Fire destroys Wellington home. family sheltered by hose

Fire Chief Pat Arnold reported a blaze early Sunday at 100 Johns Street in Wellington. A shaft in a floor lamp socket above a Davenport ignited sparks, quickly spreading to an attic above the living room of a four room bungalow. Mr and Mrs Clark and Mr and Mrs Charles Shepard used a garden hose to fight the fire until the department arrived. Clark and Shepard suffered minor injuries and Clark rescued their dog. Insurance covers the loss.

Rochester Board Names Mrs Flya Scott Principal for School

The Rochester Township Board of Education employed Mrs Flya Scott of Kipton as principal and as teacher for fourth to eighth grades at Rochester School for the 1946 47 year. She fills the post after learning Eugene Green, the prior principal, does not plan to return from military service. Mrs Tracie Burnham, teaching first four grades, will not return next year. no replacement has been named yet.

A 1942 school event at Otai Zalud featured a variety program for lower grades with performances by Kirk glee club and Salter directed groups. The school recording memoir notes the day’s events and a courtroom dispute involving Frank Plato and Ben Carter over $28 from a September 3 incident.

Board Employs Seven New Teachers

The Elytiat City Board of Education hired seven new teachers for 1946 47 including five women all Ohio State graduates and two men. Dewey Bernard Johns will teach mechanical drawing and coach freshman teams. two veteran coaches are relieved of duties. James Gill Henery and five women will join elementary and grades positions with starting salaries around 1694.50 to 1944.50, replacing higher paid retiring staff and saving about 3900 annually.

Quick Action By School Bus Driver Avoids Tragedy

Earl Johnson, Brookside bus No. 2 driver, steered into a three foot ditch on Colorado Road to avoid a collision with a heavily loaded semi trailer. The bus carried about 23 children to Brookside School, with Johnson and guard Bud Geilow guiding them to safety as the truck struck the bus rear.

37 Veterans Seek Homes In Gulf Road Project

Thirty seven applications for homes in a proposed temporary housing project on Gulf road were filed with the Elyria Veterans Service Center yesterday and more were expected today. Most applicants were veterans' wives. interviews were conducted by Mrs. Charles Hays. Applications are taken 10 am to 12 noon and 1 to 3 pm Monday through Friday and 10 am to 12 noon Saturday. Only 40 units are promised and a committee will be named later to decide allotment rules.

Three Motorists Fined $10 Each

Three motorists pleaded guilty to reckless driving and were fined $10 and costs each by Mayor A. R. Agate in police court today. Edward C. Albert Jr of North Ridgeville triled to make a safety stem at 4th St and East River. James A. Russell of 213 Oberlin Road pulled from St. St into the path of a car driven south on Middle Ave by Ethel Mayo of LaGrange. C. B.
