South Vietnamese push into Cambodia to strike sanctuaries

Thousands of South Vietnamese infantry opened a new front in Cambodia near the Bu Prang and Duc Lap camps, supported by B52 raids and U S helicopter and air support. The operation involves 25 000 to 30 000 troops with over 10 000 American advisers across a 600 mile border zone. 96 North Vietnamese soldiers were reported killed, with 100 sampans and 30 storage huts destroyed.

Mao calls world to unite to defeat U S imperialism

Mao Tsetung urged global unity to overthrow U S imperialism and warned of revolutions that could topple the Nixon administration. He warned of the danger of a new world war but did not threaten China sending troops into Indochina. The statement, broadcast by Peking Radio, came as Mao neared 77.

Nixon seeks leaded gasoline tax to curb pollution costs

President Nixon proposes a 1.6 billion dollar annual levy on leaded gasoline to fund federal programs and fight pollution. Budget director Mayo cites unemployment as reason not to raise other taxes. Target practice ends in youth’s death in Ohio township

Dennis Ward 17 of Lorain was fatally shot at a field near Garfield Road when a misfired .22-caliber pistol discharged during a target session. Frank T. Maynard 21, Ward’s brother in law, said he unloaded the gun after the accident. Coroner ruled accidental.
