Auction Night in Annapolis Bridges Hearts and Hopes
At the Kent Oliphant auction in Annapolis Virginia Oliphant challenges a bid on a mirror sold by Mrs. Jane Bleecker. Virginia rebukes the condescension around her, while Michael McMillan draws her interest. Rickey, Virginia’s brother, fantasies a future as a famed writer and the two siblings cling to old codes amid modern commercial and social pressures. The scene ends with Rickey watching Virginia rejoin the others as plans for lunch and a future unfold.
