Lorain County Child Welfare Seeks 1956 Budget Hike
Lorain County officials submitted a 1956 budget request totaling 171 382 for the child welfare department, about 64 41 more than this year. The rise mainly funds 55 000 for maintenance of children in boarding homes and outside Lorain County institutions. Executive director Howard Wells Jr. notes annual maintenance costs run 100 000 to 105 000, with the gap filled by a 70 000 child support fund that is shrinking and will leave about 15 000 by year end. The request also includes salary increases of 5 800 and 3 000 for rent and utilities due to new quarters, as the commission prepares the composite budget.
