Engelhard smell traced to vinegar producing process

Engelhard Corp officials say they may have pinpointed the source of a downtown odor. Plant manager Al Brightwell Jr. said workers talked with residents, businesses, and firefighters and a vinegar smell emerged. The vinegar-smelting acid process, the only one using that chemical, was halted Thursday afternoon. The EPA began its own probe after complaints dated May 2, 6, and 13.

Flats imposes weekend no parking on East Bank streets

Cleveland Police begin Friday night enforcement on the Flats with no parking zones from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. every Friday and Saturday through summer. Violators will be ticketed or towed in areas including Front Street, Old River Road, St Clair Avenue, Main Avenue, and West 10th Street. Parking Commissioner Greg Shumate notes ample off street spaces exist and two new lots will add roughly 350 spaces by mid summer.

Explosion Triggers House Fire in Olmsted Falls

In Olmsted Falls Erika Szanto and her daughter report an explosion in the basement of their Sprague Road home just after 10 PM. Firefighters from Olmsted Falls and Columbia Township extinguished a heavy blaze. no injuries were reported, cause under investigation.
